WRFL’s BOOMSLANG
Don’t forget about Boomslang, coming up in a couple weeks. It’s a three-day music and arts festival in Lexington, KY, featuring Rhys Chatham, Akron/Family, Wooden Shijps, Burning Star Core, and Harlem (just to name a few). It’s put on by my old friends at WRFL 88.1 FM, and it’ll be a great time.
If only I had the money and time to either drive to Lexington every night for three nights, or just take off work for three days and hang in the old college town. Sadly, I don’t, so I’ll probably miss it. But if you’re anywhere around Lexington, you should check it out!
I’m really proud of WRFL for taking the idea of an annual festival that was still in its infancy while I was there and making it to blossom into this. I hope this thing just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
Last year’s lineup was pretty baller. I saw The Black Angels and witnessed Atlas Sound go all Phil Elverum on the crowd. The venue is sort of weird…it’s an old warehouse, so it’s pretty cavernous, but damn. Akron/Family? Ben Frost? The rest of the lineup is a little too noisy/weird for my taste, but Akron/Family would be awesome since they never come anywhere close to Cincinnati.
